Itinerary & description of 6 days Family tour from Ouarzazate to Sahara Desert
1 Day : Arrival in Ouarzazate
Our Family Tour In Morocco start by transfering you from the airport to the city center of Ouarzazate. Visit the Taourirt Kasbah. It is considered a National Heritage Site and is therefore one of the most visited in Morocco. The all-powerful Lord of Atlas and his relatives owned properties throughout the southern part of the country. The Taourirt kasbah was one of them, and what is more, the Glaoui family had its origins here. What was the village of Taourourirt, the kasbah and the ksar (walled Berber village) is integrated into what is now the city of Ouarzazate.
2 Day : Ouarzazate – Agdz – Draa Valley – Zagora
After breakfast, we start our 7 days family trip from Ouarzazate crossing the Anti Atlas, the road that will take us directly to the huge Draa valley, with more than ten million palm trees. Before driving to the gateway to the desert Zagora. Near Zagora is the Koranic library, the craftsmen’s factory, and the Kasbah Subterranea de Tamegroute. We return to Zagora where we spend the night.
3 Day :Zagora -Tafraoute – Ramlia – Ouzina
After breakfast, we will drive through 280 kilometers (ex Paris Dakar Rally) with the 4×4, crossing the desert with a unique view of the “sand rivers”, dry lagoons, and endless plains where we can find nomadic Peoples. At this stage we really begin to know what the desert is. Parallel to the Algerian border, where the Tafraoute refuge is located. On the road again, through the famous sand dunes of Ouzina, the unknown desert where we spent the night.
4 Day : Ouzina – Merzouga
After breakfast, back on the Paris Dakar Rally route, we will have tea with the nomads. We will see an Oasis of the Sahara desert. It is also interesting to visit an association of African music, special music by Mali locals. They have a partnership for show and lunch teaching children. In the afternoon you can ride the camels and go between the dunes to go to the camp. Almost at night it is time for a very special privilege: watching the sunset from the camp, surrounded by the dunes. We will sleep in a real Berber tent with a unique and very special roof : the stars of the desert !…
5 Day : Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Todra – Dades Gorges
After a pleasant camel trek, with the sunset and sunrise at the top of the dunes, we start another day of our Family tour in Morocco By a heading to the small town of Rissani where we will visit the Markket. One of the most typical and oldest markets in the area. Then departure to the Todra Gorges, a very special place for mountaineers, climbers and trekking enthusiasts. We follow the route that leads us to the great canyon of the Dades where we spend the night.
6 Day Dades – Roses Valley – Skoura – Ouarzazate
After breakfast, we visit the Dades Gorges with the possibility of a short hike. We continue our journey through Boumalne dades and the Valley of the Roses and the palm grove of Skoura, until we reach Ouarzazate, city of cinema. With its magnificent landscapes, its exceptional light and its ideal climatic conditions, Ouarzazate has soon seduced the world of cinema. Ouarzazate is home to three major film studios. Created in 1983, Atlas Studios is worth a visit. Open to the public, they offer a grandiose spectacle: giant pharaohs guard their doors. Here you can see sensational movie sets, decorating workshops and discover the behind-the-scenes of the film industry. Another curiosity, the Film Museum was established in an old Italian studio of the 90’s, once inside the visitor is immersed in Ancient Greece, in the Middle East of yesteryear or in an unwelcoming prison. Brimming with authenticity, all these decorations are made of plaster.
Dinner and overnight stay in a Riad
7 Day : Ouarzazate – Ouarzazate
After breakfast we will visit the famous kasbah Ait Ben Haddou. It is a fortified village of adobe houses where many movies have been filmed including Gladiator, Asterix and Obelix, Sahara. Then we return to the airport of Ouarzazate and end of Our Family Tour In Morocco
