Day 1 : Marrakech – Ouarzazate – Zagora
Our 2 Days From Marrakech to Sahara Desert Tour started after an early morning pick up from the accommodation in Marrakech. We crossed the High Atlas Mountains from a pass of 2260 meters at altitude. We enjoy the scenery and the Berber villages on the way to the Hollywood of Africa and the gateway to the desert Ouarzazate. Continue across the Anti Atlas Mountains to the oasis of Agdz, before driving through the date palms of the Draa Valley. Along the valley we enjoy the fortified citadels and ancient villages. Villages from the time of the spice caravans that connected South Africa with Marrakech until we reach the city of Zagora. We arrive with enough time to enjoy a camel ride and enjoy the sunset in the desert of Zagora.
Day 2: Zagora – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
After breakfast, we will start our journey, passing through the magnificent Draa Valley. The longest river in Morocco, over 1200 kms long. Somewhere along the way, we turn off to go on a road that takes us into the heart of the palm grove of the valley. We enjoy the panoramic views and the adobe fortresses up to the small town Agdz. Crossing the Anti Atlas mountain range, we arrive in Ouarzazate with a stop for a panoramic photo of the Kasbah Taourirt to the center of Ouarzazate. We continue to the other famous Kasbah of Ait ben Haddou, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987, a fortified enclosure within a walled town that you will surely recognize, as this citadel has been the setting for such famous films as Gladiator, Sahara, Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra, among many others. You will continue your journey towards Marrakech crossing the High Atlas Mountains from a 2260 high pass arriving in Marrakech in the afternoon.
